For :iconcelamowari:, a younger version of his butt-kicking bodyguard-to-heroes, Shelly Ericson!

This picture is meant to be an accompaniment to a short story about Shelly's arrival in Major City and her road to becoming the bodyguard to Major City's premiere costumed crusader, Captain Satellite. I daren't give away any more that that, so you curious minds will just have to pester ~celamowari for more.

What I really enjoyed about this piece (aside from the cute, cartoony look!) was trying to track Shelly's style backwards in time. Her "current" look is based heavily on Annie from Shaider, so I wanted to work backwards to something still western in style and with her trademark bright yellow accents, but that was more "every day" looking. [link] Shelly may not be a masked superheroine, but you can't say she doesn't have a set costume. ;)

See what I mean?

Totally didn't think I missed commenting on her, but looks like I did. First off.... SCRUNCHY! The proof that it's in the past. The deatil on the seal and her belt are so nice, makes me jealous. And of course, love the hair!

Scrunchie! The only thing that would have made the past setting clearer would have been one of those huge barrettes with the bows. Thank you! I love that belt--there's so little detail on the picture that it makes the belt and the bag pop out. :)

OMG Now I know what this reminds me of!!! 8D

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it ,
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it,
You can have a town, why don't you take it.
You're gonna make it after all.
You're gonna make it after all!

Ya got spunk kid.
Why thanks!
I HATE SPUNK!!!

I actually had to double-check the description to make sure that I didn't mention that show . . . but you guessed it perfectly! That's exactly what I was drawing on.

HAHA!

This was literally my exact concept. :iconkabukikatze: arrived via THAT GIRL. [link] But we essentially made it to the same place. :D

I love how you have her looking up in amazement. I do that every time I'm in a new place too :)

You too? For me it's all big eyes and jaw open and much clicky-clicky of the camera. :)

There's so much to love here, but backtracking Shelly's style was possibly the most fascinating part. It feels like a natural that she would be a little less out there with her clothes at that point in her life. Plus, major props for not even batting an eye with the whole "USAF duffle bag" ingredient. I am totally digging it.

And yes, we listened to a lot of theme songs during this process, didn't we? ;)
