EDIT as of 12/2007: The Cafepress for the Blackest Eyes series is back--cards, pins and tees now available: [link]

The fifth of the Blackest Eyes series, illustrating the line "I have a place where all my dreams are dead."

When I first thought of this picture, I had no idea what the logic was behind it. I simply thought "Huh, that'd look good on a shirt." So I went with it. (I'm easy like that.)

As I've been working on it, I've been throwing around meaning. The idea, as far as I see it (and you can argue with me on this) is that our dreams are like trees, they take root in our minds, hearts and souls and grow from there. But when these things fail, the tree dies.

I'm sure we've all been at that place in our life when we feel that our dreams have died out . . . I suppose this is what it feels like.

Ooooh, that is really creepy looking. I love the colors (or lack thereof) Her expression is also awesome. And the little strings... So cool.

Nice work! I quite like the composition here and how the texture of the BG complements the spidery lines . . .it really gets across the darkness of the piece. :) Excellent work! Very well done!

Thanks, I hope to actually print this on a bag or something, we'll see. But for now, the phototextures stay.

I'm glad you liked it, I always wonder about the weird pieces. ;)
Thanks--I tried to keep it stark so you focus on the image. I'm glad you liked it!
Wonderfuly imaginative and compelling in it's dark glory,
I love the color work you use in this series, It adds to the melencholy tone and substance of your artistic intentions,
And if that A i got in psychology is anything to go by, a tree is a very good analogy for dreams,
I keep telling you to write that book on self help and become obscenely wealthy ;)

Great job!

Well, two different versions entices people to look at (and consider) both as related but autonomous pieces, right? :)

No one ever really seems to turn out for the more adventurous stuff, do they? :) But I enjoy it very much, I find!

That expression is so poignant. It really communicates the mood beautifully, even if you took away the rest of the piece.

But the rest...wow. I love the imagery. The dead forest, I can really see it as a moody dark night. The background texture just adds so much too.

This has been a killer series, which is amazing since it didn't even start life *as* a series.
